What is it about?

Kaolinite is used as filler in composite starch based biodegradable films. The improvement of kaolinite dispersion is achieved through previous intercalation of DMSO in kaolinite. The viscoelastic properties are analysed using DMTA and barriers properties to heat, water vapor diffusion and UV-light transmission are also evaluated.

Why is it important?

Better dispersion of kaolinite is achieved. Given that kaolinite is a very abundant material, the used of this clay is polymer-clay nacomposite making appear to be avantageous due to the availability of this clay.
