What is it about?
In coming years, I guess hetero-atom doped carbon nano-materials will replace metallic catalysts.. and they have proven to be very useful in alternate energy technologies like ORR, super-capacitors and lithium- and sodium-ion batteries. This manuscript is a continuation of my two previous papers on synthesis of graphene-CNT 3D nano-structures. Ex: DOI: 10.1021/nn3046133 and DOI: 10.1021/es401389g

Why is it important?
Uniqueness of this work is synthesis of in-situ nitrogen doped CNT from a commodity chemical like ABCN, a chemical commonly used as radical initiator in polymerization reactions.
Perspectives
Personally this manuscript gave me immense satisfaction, though I wish the associate-editor who handled this manuscript was more decisive.. Assoc. Editor's indecisiveness caused inadvertent delay and it took almost 6 months for this manuscript to get accepted. Doped carbon nano-structures have unique electronic and structural properties. The presence of dopants will result in defects on graphenic structures, which will be useful in lithium-ion retention and absorption in lithium ion batteries.
