What is it about?

System Fe - Mo - Al shows a strange equilibrium as observed experimentally, the disordered phase apparently appears in alloys rich in Al, which is very strange. Our calculations show that this is possible using parameters taken from electron structure calculations.

Why is it important?

Sometimes experimental results can be considered unreliable, since experiments are subject to several sources of error. This is particularly critic in case of strange, or unexpected, experimental results. Corroboration by theoretical methods is a useful way to confirm the validity of the experiments.

Perspectives

This was one of the many works resulting from the collaboration with my colleague, Prof. Pablo Guillermo Gonzales Ormeño, today in the Universidad Nacinal de Lima Sur in Peru. This one was a spin off of his PhD work at the Instituto de Fisica da Universidade de São Paulo.
