What is it about?

This study looks at three groups with spinal cord injury (SCI), men soon post injury (<4 years), men with established SCI and post menopausal women soon post injury and age and sex matched controls. Two peaks in bone mineral density (BMD) are seen one for the cortical bone and the other for the cancellous bone. The reductions in BMD are subject specific so each person losses bone mass in their own manner. The amount of bone in the "cortical" BMD region is reduced and in some cases almost disappears.
