What is it about?

Lycopene is a natural compound with broad therapeutic possibilities, and can assist in the prevention of various diseases. This study revealed that its preventive consumption in experimental animals can attenuate the effects of a possible drug-induced liver injury, in this case, preventing the effects of APAP intoxication.

Why is it important?

14 days of treatment with lycopene was able to improve redox imbalance, decrease thiobarbituric acid reactive species level, and increase CAT and GSH levels. In addition, it decreased the IL-1β expression and the activity of MMP-2.
