Why is it important?
To understand the routes of entry and the grow of the different hepatitis C subtypes into São Paulo.
Perspectives
Our study let us recognize the various contamination routes of hepatitis C during the last decades and helped us to highlight measures that can be taken to decrease hepatites C contamination. After an initial period of exponential growth, the expansion of the three main subtypes began to decrease as a consequence of the introduction of anti-HCV screening tests and political and educational measures avoiding needle sharing among people who inject drugs.
