What is it about?
Heavy metals are threat for us. Detecting them with present analytical instrument is a difficult task. DNA can detect heavy metals through their selective affinity for heavy metals. Analyzing electrical signal for the heavy metal-DNA binding event is very easy to detect them.

Why is it important?
It is important for us to know the mechanism first how DNA detect heavy metals. This review discussed the all principals on how DNA detect heavy metals. After that, we devoted our interest on electrochemical detection technique as it is very easier. Some significant findings are : a) background signals in DNA biosensors can overcome using elctrochemical redox indicator. b) Non-specific adsorption of DNA on electrode surface is a big challenge for electrochemical DNA biosensors. c) Modification of electrode surface with advance nano materials is need for future development. d) Spectro-electrochemical technique can help for better understanding in the development of DNA biosensors.
