What is it about?

Bisphenol A or BPA is a highly synthesized chemical. hormone. We have shown the products of BPA, when it reacts with cellular oxidants or reactive oxygen species. Computational simulation of BPA and these products shows a binding site in estrogen receptor related protein. The study concludes BPA as well as its metabolites can mimic the estrogen.

Why is it important?

Bisphenol A is shown to be an estrogen hormone mimic. However, when BPA gets into body, it transforms into various metabolites. Not only BPA, but also its metabolites can act as estrogen. Using computation calculations, this study shows there is a binding site in estrogen related receptor protein.
