Why is it important?

We show here the importance of LC-PUFA biosynthesis in a freshwater carnivorous species. This is in spite of the predatory nature of snakehead. Therefore, we postulate that a LC-PUFA biosynthesis machinery complements intake of LC-PUFA from natural diets

Perspectives

Hopefully the work will lend to existing knowledge on the diversification of desaturase and elongase in teleosts.
