What is it about?

The paper is about the dependence of the critical frequency of the ionosphere (it corresponds to maximum electron density), foF2, on various indices of solar activity. It is shown that the optimum solar index for foF2 analyses is F30, not standard indices F10.7 or sunspot number.

Why is it important?

Since foF2 is important for ionospheric propagation of radio waves/communication and to some extent also for GPS signal propagtion, the result has practical consequences.

Perspectives

More realistic climatology and long-term trends of foF2 than older results.
