What is it about?
In this paper we report on the changes in the microstructure in case of laser-irradiated FePd thin alloy films. We show that the laser annealing of the multilayer system transforms it into L10-oredered alloy. With respect to the annealing time we show the changes in material's properties at very early stages of the transformation process.

Why is it important?
The FePd thin alloy films are being considered as promising material for applications in hard disk drives with perpendicular magnetic recording. The structural and magnetic properties of the material are strongly dependent on its state at very early stages of crystallization. Therefore, we applied pulsed laser annealing technique to determine what is a driving force for thin film ordering and texturing processes.
