What is it about?

The work explains the antimicrobial activities of the medicinal plant Carissa opaca roots and isolation of chemical compounds from their ethyl acetate fraction.

Why is it important?

Discovery of new antibiotics or therapies for microbial infections due to pathogens such as those resistant to conventional antibiotics.

Perspectives

The current antibiotics are losing effectiveness due to the development of multi-drug resistance in the pathogenic microorganisms. There is thus a dire need to find new antimicrobial drugs. The current work is an effort in that direction.
