What is it about?

This study uses a detailed vehicle model to estimate the relationship between driving range, energy consumption, and WTW CO2 emission rate. A simplified energy consumption estimation is proposed in order to understand the energy efficiency of standardized BEV test cycles compared with those of real-world driving. Additionally, the effects of parameters such as rolling coefficient, drag area, battery capacity, and grid-carbon intensity are simulated and discussed,

Why is it important?

This study provides data for vehicle manufacturers, policymakers, and the public in order to make optimal decisions regarding the tradeoffs between consumer demand, driving patterns, and environmental benefits of BEVs in China.

Perspectives

In this paper, the differences of energy consumption characteristics between electric vehicles and conventional vehicles are addressed , and the energy consumption rate of electric vehicle under any driving conditions are discussed and approximately modeled.
