What is it about?

Microcapsules are little spheres of polymer usually with some liquid inside. They are applied onto textile fibres to confer some properties such as fragrances, cosmetic ones, etc. Those little particles influence the acoustical behaviour of the fabric. Thus, they can be used to improve the acoustical properties on a room covered with those fabrics

Why is it important?

Textiles can be used for fashion or home textiles, however they can also be used for specific functions such as architecture. Functionalising textiles can be useful not only for dermal applications but for decoration. In this article we demonstrate it can be useful to improve the reduction of noise. if the fabrics would be used to cover or even when used in a marquee a tent etc.

Perspectives

The results open an alternative to decorate walls, on rooms or to be used in a marquees, tents etc., and improve the acoustical behaviour.
