What is it about?

Its a case where we describe massive life-threatening penetrating junctional hemorrhage temporized by bimanual external aortic cmpression.

Why is it important?

First reported case. Bimanual external aortic compression represents a prehospital intervention that is extremely easy to learn and can be deployed where typically no other immediately available temporizing measure exists.

Perspectives

Penetrating junctional trauma is the leading cause of modern battlefield death. It is also a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the civilian setting. Very few temporizing measures exist, most involve specialized equipment and/or advanced training. Bimanual external aortic compression may be an option when no others exist.
