Non-territorial floaters of a territorial species settle in the best patches of a habitat in order to increase their chance to hold/take away best territories

Why is it important?

Floaters, which are males of a territorial species that do non hold territory at a given time, are believed to be specimens that lost competition for best territories and thus they are expected to settle in the habitats of lower quality. However, my study shows that non-territorial males seem to be players who do not possess territories because there were simply no vacant places for them. But instead, they settle in the vicinity of best places in order to enhance their chance for takeover.
