What is it about?

We investigated the radiation damage produced in stainless steels and compared with thermo-calc equilibrium calculations. We showed that the phase transformations produced in the steel could be understood using the equilibrium calculations, even in a system which is evidently out-of-equilibrium.

Why is it important?

Understanding the way radiation damage proceeds is important to project safer reactors, avoiding accidents.
