Library security in the era of national insecurity: An examination of counter-terrorism readiness of university libraries in South-East Nigeria

Why is it important?

For over a decade now, there has been rising spate of insecurity in the North East and North Central Nigeria propelled by Boko-Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) activities which have resulted in the death and displacement of thousands of people, kidnapping and abduction of thousands others; and destruction of schools and libraries. This study examined the preparedness of the university libraries in South-East Nigeria in the current insecurity situation. Five specific objectives guided the study, and sought to examine the counter terrorism readiness of the libraries in the study area. The study adopted descriptive survey design using mix method approach. The population of the study was 124 librarians from 14 university libraries in South East Nigeria. Instruments used for data collection were questionnaire, observation checklist and structured interview
