What is it about?

Open access (OA) journals can be an important source of important research, which is readily accessible by all readers. The authors have reported on the journals in the field of medicine indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Why is it important?

Given that medicine constitutes the discipline most highly represented among OA journals, our findings indicate that the quality of its content makes the DOAJ database comparable with other similar commercial databases.

Perspectives

Given the rapid spread of medical misinformation, I hope that researchers will consider DOAJ as one of their important "go to" resources.
