What is it about?
Establishing an ecological network (EN) that includes natural and seminatural areas, rural and urban elements, and green spaces - both terrestrial and aquatic -will strengthen ecosystem conservation and resilience while benefiting biodiversity and communities. Municipal ENs are based on the landscape approach that focuses on the connections between ecosystems and the interactions between human activities and natural environments. This model promotes biological and landscape diversity, supporting various policy sectors in ecosystem conservation.

Why is it important?
Land use-land cover changes over time have led to a significant decline in natural habitats and increased fragmentation. This threatens biodiversity and adversely affects the ability of ecosystems to provide essential goods and services for human societies. Critical services such as climate regulation and carbon sequestration are crucial in the context of ongoing climate change.
