What is it about?

Glioblastoma (GB) is the most aggressive form of brain tumor with a very poor prognosis despite the advent of the modern, multimodal anticancer therapies. Extensive research investigating novel targets for GB treatment has shifted the attention toward microRNAs (miRNAs), which play crucial regulatory roles in cellular pathways as well as in the pathogenesis of complex disorders such as cancer. Several miRNAs are dysregulated in GB tissues and cells, serving as either tumor suppressors or oncogenes and thereby controlling the various hallmarks of cancer. This chapter discusses the roles of critical miRNAs associated with GB progression, their potential roles as therapeutic agents or targets, and the various strategies for implementing successful miRNA-based therapy of GB.
