What is it about?

This paper provides an overview of emerging urban energy research on the subcontinent of Africa, detailing the energy picture in six African municipalities in Ghana, South Africa, and Uganda, and presents the result of an Urban African Energy Futures modeling exercise. It argues that the changing energy picture points to an important role for local government in this arena, given linkages between energy impacts and local government mandates (powers and functions) in the region.
