Why is it important?

The characterization of the enzyme prove that dopachrome was transformed to 5.6-dihydroxyindole-2 carboxylic acid (DHICA). The importance of this catalysis is the no decarboxylation tautomerization of dopachrome, explaining the incorporation of DHICA units to the eumelanin polymer
