What is it about?
For the first time in the semiarid region of northern Iraq, seasonal rainfall records were analyzed along with single storms and seasonal runoff and soil loss. A theory for runoff and soil loss prediction in the region was developed.

Why is it important?
We tested two widely used models for use in the region. The SCS runoff curve number method and the Universal Soil Loss Equation. Modifications were suggested for a proper application of these two models in the region.
Perspectives
Using natural runoff plots to study runoff and soil loss in the region and for several rainfall seasons is a pioneer research project in the region. The results were published internationally in most cases.
