What are smartphones and other mobile technologies “stealing” from the tourist experience? This study explores answers to this question as well as perspectives on the dark side of mobile technologies in the holiday context.

Why is it important?
We live in an era where mobile technologies have become indispensable in daily life. Giving our over dependence on this technology in leisure contexts, it is critical to investigate the side effects. Yet most studies tend to focus only on the benefits this technology delivers to the holiday experience, and thus neglecting the adverse implications. This study seeks to help bridge this gap.
Perspectives
This paper offers interesting perspectives on what tourists are losing from their holiday experience due to their incessant engagement with smartphones and other mobile technologies.
