What is it about?

Controversy exists about the role of parent psychopathology in persistence & severity of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms in children. We aimed to analyse the association between severity of ADHD symptoms in children and presence of psychiatric and ADHD symptoms in their parents.

Why is it important?

The severity of the symptoms in children with ADHD was significantly related to the psychiatric history of their mother, the younger age of the child and the presence of a comorbid conduct disorder in the child.

Perspectives

It is important to screen for parental psychopathology in clinical practice, because the severity of childrens' symptoms is related to it.
