What is it about?

Over a few publications, our group has shown a reliable method for collecting tears and assessing a panel of lipid mediators in patients using mass spectrometry. This can be used to monitor for longitudinal changes of lipids after intervention as well.

Why is it important?

Lipid mediators modulate inflammation in many ocular surface disease. However, there is no standard way of measuring these mediators.

Perspectives

Lipid assays are useful in clinical trials, when the objective effect of intervention on inflammation needs to be measured.
