What is it about?
During 8 archaeological campaigns (2009-2017) in the Sistema 7 Venado architectural complex, southside of Monte Alban, Oaxaca, we have excavated oldest levels of the hills (800 BC). All the obsidian artefacts (440) found in context are measured by PIXE technic to determine their origin.

Why is it important?
The sourcing by PIXE technique of 416 obsidian artefacts excavated from test-pits during height archaeological campaigns in the Sistema 7 Venado of Monte Alban permits to reintroduce this ceremonial centre in the prehispanic commercial networks of central valleys of Oaxaca, and by extension, in the cultural context of Mesoamerican Periods 1 and 2 (1200 to 500 BCE, and 500 BCE to 200 CE).
