What is it about?
We applied the novel shearlet transform for the purpose of seismic channel edge detection for the first time. We also compared the result with Sobel and Canny edge detectors for both synthetic and real seismic examples.

Why is it important?
It is important nowadays to automatically detect features in seismic data and this article aims to find channel boundaries in 2D time slices automatically.
Perspectives
It is interesting to apply the multi-scale and multi-directional shearlet transform to decompose seismic time slices containing channels.
