What is it about?

This research is related to exploring better cooling characteristics and advancing the current limit. The research is important in the field of thermal management of electronic cooling devices such as spacecrafts.

Why is it important?

Increasingly high heating loads on a cooling device limits their performance. It is important to devise a system with high cooling performance even at extremely high heating loads. The research is thus beneficial to next generation cooling systems.

Perspectives

This research shows excellent cooling performance of a new type of wick. Further, the wick, consisting of packed capillaries, is simple to use and has an extra advantage of high liquid storage capacity. Therefore, any additional unit in loop heat pipes and capillary pumped loops are not needed in this case.
