What is it about?
We have shown that Human growth hormone can be efficiently loaded on bare silica nanoparticles • Silica nanoparticle-bounded growth hormone retains tertiary structure • Nanocomposites of hormone-loaded particles and collagen are biocompatible • Silica-collagen loaded nanocomposites shows a bi-phasic prolonged hormone release • Combination of silica nanoparticles and collagen matrix for prolonged release of GH may benefit growth hormone deficiency treatments.

Why is it important?
GH is a fabulous therapy for GH deficiency y children. While some devices have been developed to facilitate GH administration, daily injections are still needed. A series of adverse effects associated with currently available GH therapy have been described. More importantly, patient compliance to chronic daily administration is generally incomplete due to challenges including dose frequency, device limitations, lack of perceived benefits, hard and extensive procedures, and costs.Other adverse effects have also been described. Therefore new formulations of GH, which could space the administration, and improve the availability are needed.
