What is it about?

We perform flow measurements of jet impingement upon a semicylinder in a confined crossflow. Mean and ensemble-averaged flow distributions, turbulence statistics, coherent structures, adn shedding frequencies are presented for various injection rates.

Why is it important?

Due to the curvature of the target surface, upon impingement, the split jet forms upwash fountain jets that colide with the primary jet flow rupturing the evolving coherent structures. The flapping motion of the jet changes drastically for increasing values of the jet-to-crossflow velocity ratio.

Perspectives

Most of jet impingement studies focus on the basic configuration of a jet impinging normally onto a flat target surface and studies that address the effects of variable surface curvature are rarely found.
