Reconstruction of ionospheric VTEC using empirical orthogonal function and its performance during extreme geomagnetic storm

What is it about?

This work demonstrates how the spatial distributions of the ionospheric TEC and its temporal variations can be conveniently represented using only a few numbers of orthogonal basis functions. It shows that only 6 numbers of basis functions are enough for typical accuracy.
