What is it about?

I. Radiation-induced erectile dysfunction is a progressive late toxicity driven by neurovascular and hormonal damage. II. Penile bulb dose constraints remain controversial due to non-standardized anatomical contouring and heterogeneous outcome definitions. III. No validated NTCP model exists for predicting radiation-induced erectile dysfunction. IV. Radiation, ADT and age are the most significant predictor of RIED, alongside comorbidities and baseline function.

Why is it important?

Radiation-induced erectile dysfunction (RIED) remains one of the most prevalent and distressing late toxicities among prostate cancer survivors. Despite advances in radiation therapy techniques, its underlying mechanisms, dose–response relationships, and predictive modeling strategies are not yet fully understood.

Perspectives

This study is a comprehensive systematic review for radiooncologists, medical physicists and surgeons to have a chance to reduce the probability of erectile dysfunction in patients with prostate cancer.
