What is it about?

It is about a new method of corrosion monitoring of rebars in concrete using multi-orientation piezoelectric sensors and the behavior of impedance curves.

Why is it important?

A mathematical equation has been proposed to predict the corrosion rate and direction of corrosion, as well as the time and period of the corrosion initiation. It provides more accurate information in comparison with the conventional methods such as Faraday's method or equivalent mass method. The proposed analytical method observes the behavior of impedance curves with very high precision and justifies each behavior of the impedance curves with a reason.

Perspectives

The proposed method can be used as an alternative method for non-destructive corrosion monitoring of concrete using impedance-based sensors.
