We discuss recent research on how individuals' environmental actions are influenced by their personal values and identities, as well as by the values and identities they perceive others to have.

Why is it important?
Take home messages: Both personal and group values and identities influence climate action. Environmental values and identities are consistent motivators of climate action. People report strong personal environmental values and self-identities. (@ESS_Survey) People perceive others to value the environment less than they do themselves. Changing perceptions of group environmental values may promote climate action.
