What is it about?

This paper is aimed to propose a low-cost automated control of furnace for steel heat treatments and makes innovative use of new technologies. This was implemented using an open source electronic prototyping platform in order to control the furnace temperature reducing the human interaction during the heat process, and it can be adapted on commercial furnac-es without control, mainly used by small businesses.

Why is it important?

Much research has been developed in order to boost productivity in companies through industrial automation, however the association of automation in the heat treatment processes has brought results more reliable processes, although it still has a lot to find out the integration of these processes.

Perspectives

This paper is aimed to propose a feedback system controlled by a single computer in order to reduce the subjective interference of human factor during heat treatments and presents an innovative use of new tecnologies. This low-cost automated control can be used in a lot of process automation and adapted in most economic furnaces available on the market used by small businesses.
