What is it about?
This research has found that the cells lining the uterus are normally linked together by strong mechanical junctions, which may prevent implantation. At the beginning of pregnancy, these junctions are lost, thereby loosening the connections between the cells and allowing the blastocyst to pass through and implant. However, this research has also shown that the drugs used during IVF prevent these junctions from being lost, which may make it more difficult to achieve implantation and pregnancy.

Why is it important?
This research enhances our understanding of the underlying natural processes involved in the establishment of pregnancy. It also exposes limitations in the current IVF protocols and areas that could be targeted to improve IVF success.
