What is it about?
The purpose of evolution and life on the earth has been viewed from different angles. They range from a claim that there is some special purpose and designed by somebody to a view that there is no purpose - it is simply a random phenomenon and no meaning should be attributed to it. The development of quantum mechanics and anthropic principle however attribute a central role for the human being to drive the evolution further. These aspects are first reviewed in the paper.

Why is it important?
Attention is drawn to a model developed in the field of Operational Research that offers the possibility of expressing mathematically the evolution of both biological and social systems and thereby predict their future course.
Perspectives
Based on the review of the existing theories and models it is suggested that one purpose of human life could be to direct evolution through technological advances to overcome cosmic limits and command the process reasonably.
