What is it about?

Sidi El Barrak dam was built from 1996 to 2002 on thick loose saturated sand layer whihc does pose any problem related to bearing capacity and settlement. This dam is located in North-South of Tunisia, an area with moderate seismic risk. Terefore, the need of liquefaction mitigations was necessary and executed using the vibrocompaction technique. This latter enabled to increase relative densiti of sand deposit from 40 to more that 70%. Although, the dam was explouted since 2001 without any significant problem it was juged interestig to simulate the behaviour of this dam after the treatment of sandy soil foundation and to comapre predicted date (settlement) without recorded date on the site.
