What is it about?

Plant growth is usually limited by the availability of land and light. Light emitting diodes (LED) deliver specific quality and quantity of light to plants. So far, only a few investigations on the applications of LED in plant incubators have been reported. The device presented in this study uses LED delivering mixture of red and blue or white light. The effects of these specific irradiations in terms of plant productivity, flowering are compared with field and greenhouse conditions The main findings are that LED improve economic characteristics of plants by stimulating their metabolism

It well established that many phyiological phenomenons in plants are regulated by by light intensity and/or quality. This paper demonstrates how LED can be used for such a purpose

Perspectives

The impact of monochromatic light is not restricted to land plants. This work is continued with microalgae with the aim to understand how monochromatic light provided by LED can be used to promote growth and high value molecules.
