What is it about?
In this paper we described a rodent outbreak (Ratada) following a bamboo blooming. Such event is very rare and difficult to predict.

Why is it important?
We emphasize that an infrequent and poorly known event can have a major impact on rodent population dynamics, regardless of the species diet, increasing abundance, and weight bottom-up controlled by the massive availability of food resources.
Perspectives
If the as sumption that Merostachys riedeliana produces flowers and seedlings every 30–32 years is correct, we established a temporal basis for a future blooming to take place between 2040 and 2042 at the Reserva Florestal do Morro Grande.
