What is it about?

The International League Against Epilepsy recently published guidelines on classifying seizures and epilepsy. We explain the major points for the benefit of the pediatricians.

Why is it important?

This is a small write-up on diagnosing seizure types, including the newer seizure types described; changes in terminology; new epilepsy types and changes in their definition, and various etiological groups of epilepsies. Easy to read tables point out the recent change sin a glance.

Perspectives

The new ILAE, 2017 classification is major change since the 1989 classifications and writing this article gave me an insight into how using it would ease clinical care for epilepsy patients and better understanding of the disease by both clinicians and researchers.
