Why is it important?

This study helps to: 1. provide a new way to meet the various information needs (i.e. current, every day, or catching-up) of the users by updating them regarding the news, conferences, events etc. which are trending on twitter related to their topic of interest 2. provide a new way to market libraries (this strategy of marketing can also be applied to institute/universities) using SWOT analysis (where SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) on the basis of tweets associated with a library Twitter account 3. provide services like current awareness and selective dissemination by sending out SMS, case study report or state of art report to the users of the libraries on the basis of the tweets most related to their topic of interest

Perspectives

This paper deals with the application of sentiment analysis and social media mining in the field of library and information science to provide new time-based service to its users in a competitive digital environment so that they do not miss any important information regarding their topic of interest. Further, this paper shows that in a Web 4.0 era, a librarian has to be a proactive manager to meet its users’ needs by providing new and innovative services. This study will be most useful to librarians working at special libraries, subject librarians and researchers interested in new techniques for evaluating large corpus of textual data; and for those who have a keen perspective to know the attitude and emotion of public on an international social platform in relation to different facets of productivity.
