What is it about?

Tumor cells release part of its cellular components namely DNA which is different from that released by normal cells. Measuring the ration between both (DNA integrity index) gives a clue about the presence of malignancy

Why is it important?

Early diagnosis of cancer is very crucial to achieve good therapeutic response. That is why there is a continuous need to find out new markers to detect malignancy

Perspectives

The use of peripheral blood to look for malignancies in other organs is very promising. The original tumor site may be originally inaccessible or not anymore accessible after surgical removal of the primary tumor. Peripheral blood, also, reflects all tumor sites if there is a hidden metastasis. Currently it's a hot research area and has many current and future applicability
