What is it about?

Groundwater and river water interaction is very important as most of the highly populated cities are located in the riverbanks. The following paper discusses such interactions occurring in the Ciliwung riverbank, from Bogor to Jakarta segment, Indonesia. We have shown three interaction types from upstream to downstream using cheap surface mapping supported by hydrochemical measurements.

Why is it important?

Our findings show the close interaction between groundwater and river water so that both easily can influence each other, especially in term of quality. Thus, water conservation and security strategies are much more needed to ensure the availability of water for domestic purposes.

Perspectives

This paper is a preliminary study. It needs more and more data in order to understand water behavior. We also need more technique to sharpen the map resolution. Comments and collaborations are welcome.
