What is it about?

This is about the issues involved with keeping ports safe. It is based on qualitative in-depth interviews with those involved in port operations and safety. These interviews were based on the extant literature and also on specific issues faced in the port of Kaohsiung. In addition, the issues of how to actually research port safety are also considered.

Why is it important?

It is important because it asks questions about the ability to actually ascertain how safe a port is. It not only explores the key issues involved but it also asks questions going forward about how port safety can be researched, measured, and maintained.

Perspectives

My own perspective on this is that it was fascinating to uncover all the issues involved and also the complications involved with researching the issue of port safety. Many of these issues were unexpected.
