What is it about?

Conventional super-resolution microscopy is largely done in 2D, while it often requires sophisticated techniques with custom-made algorithms to realize 3D super-resolution. With spinning disk and SOFI, here we present a novel technique that can achieve super-resolution easily.

Why is it important?

Super-resolution opens up new opportunities to visualize and understand the subcellular structure and dynamics.Since these subtle changes are always in 3D, it is of great importance to have 3D super-resolution capability with accessible techniques. Taking advantage of the spinning disk confocal and intermittency of quasntum dot , we have realized 3D super-resolution with SOFI and BALM, termed 3D-MUSIC.
