Using Sex-Related Alcohol Expectancies to Predict Condom Use Among a General Sample of Men and Women in the United States

What is it about?

This article looks to assess how individuals believe alcohol impacts their sex life, and if that also impacts decisions to use condoms. This literature primarily focuses on men who have sex with men and college aged women, and we wanted to determine if the findings in those specific populations generalized to a more diverse sample.

Why is it important?

This is important because we found that for men in general, regardless of sexual orientation, their sex related alcohol expectancies are correlated with condom use. Specifically, if men have high SRAEs, they were less likely to use a condom at their last sexual event.
