What is it about?

The reaction mechanims for the reduction of mineral sulphides in the presence of CaO and carbon were investigated by stopping the reactions at various times and analysing the reaction products. The reduction of FeS occured via formation of FeO/Fe3O4 which were then reduced to metallic state. The limiting factor for the metallisation of Fe was the reduction reaction. The limiting factor for the metallisation of Cu was the exchange reaction. The results agrred with the thermodynamic prediction.
